Faiz Ali Faiz
Faiz Ali Faiz comes from a family of qawwals from seven generations. Born in 1962 in Sharaqpur, between Lahore and Faisalabad, Faiz Ali started his professional career in 1978, creating at the same time his own qawwali ensemble. Though Faiz is from Lahore, he practices the doaba style from eastern Pakistan. He admits he has been influenced by Sham-Chaurasi, a famous Khayal singing school where Ustad Salamat Ali Khan belongs to. Faiz Ali learned classical music with Ustad Ghulam Shabbir Khan and Ustad Jafar Khan and received qawwali training with Masters Muhammad Ali Faridi and Abdur Rahim Faridi Qawwal. Faiz's voice is characterised by its large range and a specially rich tone which reminds us the legendary Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, who has been his revered inspiration and whose compositions he enjoys singing. In spite of its youth for a qawwal, Faiz Ali meets a success growing near its listeners.
